School Radio & Podcasting
A complete pedagogical and technical roadmap for launching a school radio or podcast — using a smartphone, a basic microphone and free software. No existing studio required.
School radio gives students a reason to write carefully, speak clearly and listen to each other — and it gives quiet students a way in. The obstacle is almost never pedagogy. It is the belief that you need a studio.
You don’t. Over six days you will build a working podcast workflow from a smartphone, a basic microphone and free software, and you will visit two Mallorcan schools where student radio already runs week in, week out. You go home with a finished episode and a plan you can start in September.

Hands-on from day one

Day 1
Theoretical foundations & script writing
- Welcome session and course introduction
- Why a school radio? Podcasting as an inclusive tool
- Engaging students through podcasting: practical methods
- Types of podcast scripts, structure, storytelling and language style
Day 2
Creating a podcast & setting up a studio
- Step-by-step: brainstorming, storyboarding, recording, editing, dissemination
- Integrating podcasts into different subjects and curricula
- Equipment overview: microphones, computers, Audacity, Podcastle
- Hands-on practice: recording your first sample clips
Day 3
School visit (1) — CC Sant Salvador, Artà
- Observe live school radio programmes
- Talk to the teachers and students running the project
- Q&A with school staff on setup, workflow and impact
Day 4
AI in podcasting & group project work
- AI tools for sound and image, script writing and evaluation
- Group project: start building your own podcast with what you have learned
Day 5
School visit (2) — Cooperativa d'Ensenyament Es Lledoner, Felanitx
- Live broadcasts, and a Q&A with the staff who set the studio up
- Afternoon: guided visit of Palma de Mallorca (optional extra)
Day 6
Finishing touches, showcase & closure
- Finalise recordings: editing, effects, preparing for dissemination
- Podcast showcase and peer feedback
- Certificate ceremony
